Zakat to Parents
Cleric, may we menzakatkan some fortune that we can to the parents themselves are ill?
Examples like this cleric, my average salary of Rp 5 million per month. This means that if taken 2, 5% means that I spend zakat Rp 125,000. But if I count my family after spending needs, only $ 25,000 (2, 5% x $ 1 million).
While my parents gave to Rp 300,000 per month to my parents who had long been ill. If then that I intend as a charity of my income, can not ustadz?

In the matter of almsgiving there are so many views and versions. Some people there are who firmly stated that the charity is an obligation of Muslims to be deposited through ulul amri. What is meant by ulil amri is the government, as in the days before the Khilafah Islamiyah.
Approximately a kind of tax to be remitted to the state. There are special tax officer to come and count the amount of the obligation of zakat must be spent by each resident that meets the mandatory requirement of zakat.
With reference to this opinion, then provision of assistance to parents or family, not including the payment of zakat. Because Zakat Zakat should be paid to an officer (read: state).
While helping a family affair, including the elderly who are sick, then it should not be mixed-mixed with the obligation to pay zakat. Help families and parents who are sick of their own funds, outside the zakat funds.
Among other scholars may differ on this issue. For them, the purpose of charity is to give some property to 8 ashnaf, and is not required should be through official charity.
If there are family or the nearest neighbor in desperate need of zakat funds, while they indeed meet the criteria as mustahik, why not be given?
Does not help that person should be from the nearest first? And the nearest person happened to be parents themselves, then just pay zakat for their medical expenses. As long as they are poor or faqir mustahiq zakat and fulfill the criteria, then pay it right away.
Especially considering the state we do not yet have its own Department of Zakat. So if you have to wait for alms officers came to the house, how long would it come from?
Likewise, the amil zakat institutions or agencies, it turns out not cover all areas.Although this is quite a lot now, but still do not have enough coverage area.
Anyway, such institutions do not have a strong authority to levy the real meaning. Yet such as tax officer who already had the force of law. Where the person or party affected by the obligation to pay taxes if not paid, then there are sanctions.
Unlike the zakat, anyone who does not want to pay zakat in this country, he’s safe.No single party is authorized by the state to confiscate his property.
This is certainly different from the situation at the time of Abu Bakr radi ‘anhu, in which he as head of state can notice the war against those who refused to pay zakat and justifies their blood and treasure. Because people who reject its legal obligation of zakat infidels and apostates are entitled convicted.
You may choose from two views above, whichever is certainly no basis and hujjahnya.
That should not be overlooked is that the charity’s property must not fall into the hands of people outside the eight criteria set in Allah in the Qur’an.
Indeed zakat-alms, it is just for poor people, poor people, officials, administrators of zakat, the mu’allaf who persuaded him, for the slaves, the people are indebted, for the path of Allah and to their Yuang is on the way , as a mandatory provision of Allah, and Allah is Knower, Wise. (Surat At-Tawbah: 69)
But perhaps the most Afdhal is if you can do both simultaneously. Set aside money to help pay your parents, then deposited into your zakat also amil zakat institutions closest to you. After all, the value is not too much different.
And there has never been the history of people falling into poverty and hunger because of pay zakat. Conversely, the frequent occurrence is a rich become poor because of does not want to pay zakat.
And Allaah knows best bishshawab, wassalamu ‘alaykum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh
