40 Elementary Students Receive Scholarships to Study at ISO Certified High School

BOGOR, INDONESIA – After a string of various selection stages, as many as 40 primary school students from various regions in Indonesia received scholarships from Dompet Dhuafa. The scholarships include 5 years enrolment and boarding fees at Dompet Dhuafa SMART Ekselensia Indonesia (SMART EI) highschool.

SMART EI is an elite boarding highschool, that charges no fee to its students. It is the first highschool with an accelerated education program of 5 years (instead of the normal 6 years) and it is ISO 9001:2008 certified (ie. International Standard). It was officially opened on the 29th of July 2004, and is located in Jalan Raya Parung KM 42, Bogor, West Java, Indonesia. This school is especially built for those children that have great potentials from poor families.

“Some of them are from Sumatera, Bangka Belitung, East Kalimantan, Sulawesi, West Nusa Tenggara, to Papua,” said Mulyadi Saputra, director of SMART EI Dompet Dhuafa, Tuesday (28/5) in Bogor.

Mulyadi said, the students have been through the five stages of the selection stages. The stages are the administrative selection, the field of study selection, psychological selection, house surveys and family readiness, as well as the final determination stage.

“Having been accepted, students will be required to live in the dormitory of SMART EI highschool, to finish junior high school education for 3 years and 2 years of accelerated senior high school education,” said Mulyadi.

The school is one of the ’empowerment and education’ programs from Dompet Dhuafa. SMART EI is a selective boarding secondary school that is free of charge. It is “A” accredited, and is dedicated to empowering poor children throughout Indonesia. (gie/ant)
