Aqeeqah is an activity sloughing goat or sheep as the sense of gratitude to Allah SWT for the birth of a baby. The statute of aqeeqah is sunnah (recommended by the Prophet Muhammad PBUH) to the parent or guardian of the baby.

The Prophet PBUH stated, “Every new born baby is in pledge for his Aqeeqah, a sacrifice is made for him on the seventh day, his head is shaved and he (or she) is given a name” (Saheeh, Abu Dawood, Tirmidhi, Nasa`i, Ibn Majah, Ahmad).

As narrated by Aishah RA, that Prophet PBUH instructed them to sacrifice two goats in favour of a boy and one goat in favour of a girl.

Imam Ahmad argued that for anyone who never done the aqeeqah during their life, it is better to do it by themself as adults. Imam Shafi’i also encouraged anyone who never been done aqeeqah by their parents, should to their aqeeqah by their own.

Dompet Dhuafa facilitates the Islamic tradition of Aqeeqah by providing the best quality of cattles to be distributed to needy families in Indonesia. Beyond, it aims to bridge the social values and concern between the grateful parents of a newborn child and the poor in the targeted area where we work.
